Kylian Mbappe’s PSG future uncertain as he hesitates over new deal

With all clubs losing vast amounts of money because of the coronavirus pandemic, and a collapsed TV deal further harming French soccer, Mbappe and Neymar are huge assets.

Mbappe's contract with his hometown club runs until the summer of 2022.

After scoring two goals against Montpellier on Friday night, the French global spoke about his future to the press.

'I said I was thinking about it because I think that...if I sign it would have to be a long-term commitment to Paris Saint-Germain.

"We are now negotiating with the club, I too find myself reflecting". I'm happy to be here again. "The supporters and the club have always helped me and for that alone I will always be grateful. That's what I am thinking about and I know I will have to make a choice soon", added Mbappe after Friday's match.

I want to think about what I want to do in the years to come, where I want to be, said Mbappe, who grew up in the Paris suburbs.

Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Mbappe's comments immediately afterwards, and seemed encouraged by what the forward had to say.

"If I had the answer today I would say so". "But it's clear that these are decisive words".

PSG made the extra man count as Di Maria played in Mbappe to open the scoring with a dinked finish over substitute goalkeeper Dimitry Bertaud in the 34th minute.

The 22-year-old - who cost PSG £166 million in transfer fees when they signed him from AS Monaco, as reported by Sky Sports - has now said that he is not sure whether or not to sign a new contract with PSG, with his current deal at the French giants runout out at the end of next season.

Mbappe's double against Montpellier meant PSG once again edged ahead in the race for the Ligue 1 title, with Lille and Lyon three and five points behind respectively ahead of their weekend fixtures. It's normal, when you don't score and people are used to you scoring.

"I feel better. I can be there tonight while keeping my distances", Pochettino told Telefoot.
