3 'Final Fantasy XV' DLC cancelled as director leaves company

Unfortunately for fans of the game, the stream didn't feature much in the way of good news, with Square also canceling the majority of Final Fantasy XV's upcoming DLC.

First things first, the Final Fantasy XV DLC episodes Aranea, Lunafreye, and Noctis have all been cancelled barring Ardyn, which is still going ahead as scheduled and will be launching in March 2019. Tabata took the troubled project over partway through development, during the time it was still known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII and directed by Tetsuya Nomura. And due to this directional change, the company has made a decision to focus our resources on the development of this AAA title. He explained that Luminous Productions, the Square Enix studio built in 2018 from the core of the FFXV team to support the game as well as make new games, will focus on the new. FFXV director Hajime Tabata has left the company too, planning to start his own company for his own project.

Square Enix also confirmed during the livestream that the team at Luminous Productions - which has been responsible for supporting Final Fantasy 15 throughout the years - is now working on a new project, and it seems likely that it'll focus its full efforts on whatever that game is once Ardyn's DLC releases in March 2019.

Now it seems that only Ardyn's episode will see the light of day. However, no further details were divulged on what this new title is.

The new DLCs were being developed by Luminous Productions, game director Tabata's new studio within the company. There's no doubt that Square Enix sunk quite a bit of money into the extra Final Fantasy XV content, which probably had something to do with their financial loss. Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer Comrades will be heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 12th December in North America and then 13th December in Europe and Japan.

In addition, Square Enix confirmed Tabata's departure through a written statement.

What do you think about Tabata's resignation and Square Enix's announcements on Final Fantasy XV?
