De Minaur having ‘hell of a year’

De Minaur having ‘hell of a year’

Greek sensation, Stefanos Tsitsipas capped a splendid 2018 season by winning the NextGen ATP Finals over Alex de Minaur in Milan.

De Minaur, Australia's highest ranked male singles player at No. 31 in the world, kept cool and won the fifth set 4-2 to book a place in the final.

Tsitsipas, with his pride bruised slightly more than his hand, eventually gathered himself to sweep to victory and move within one match of securing his second career title having captured his first in Stockholm last month.

In the absence of Alexander Zverev, who skipped the event for the second year after qualifying for the ATP Finals, 20-year-old Tsitsipas was the top seed and he made no secret of how much he wanted to come out on top.

"Before a match, everyone is different, but for me I relax and chill", Fritz said.

"It feels great. I've been playing some great tennis this week here in Milan", Tsitsipas said "It was a fantastic match".

And I think this is little bit not fair because the other guys, they have little more chances to win always.

Three sets on a tie-break, and it was - like, you don't see the difference between the players. "I never expected nearly anything that happened this year", said the player from Sydney.

He added: "And I'm very happy it's over".

"I've played some incredible tennis throughout the whole year". "I'll be around my team, I'll be by myself, I'll be with friends and not stress about the match until it's time to warm up, then I lock in".

Tsitsipas overcame the meltdown as he went on to prevail 4-3 (3) 3-4 (5) 4-0 2-4 4-3 (2) over his Russian opponent.
