Stan Lee, Comic Book Legend, Has Died At 95

The Marvel Comics publisher helped to create numerous universe's best-loved characters, including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the X-Men, Black Panther, Iron Man, the Mighty Thor, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Ant-Man. His daughter, J.C. Lee, confirmed his death with TMZ.

Lee, who was born Stanley Martin Leiber in 1922, grew up in the Bronx during the Great Depression.

But Kirby remembered the creation of the Fantastic Four very differently. Co-created with artist Jack Kirby, the team was immediately popular and revolutionized the superhero genre by exploring the heroes' flaws, vulnerabilities, failures and interpersonal conflicts. Along the way, he helped create scores of memorable heroes, including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four - heroes who had godlike powers but were still devastatingly human. The team-up group The Avengers followed in 1963.

Lee first started with Marvel - then called Timely Comics - as an assistant in 1939. Over the course of his 95-years-long and amazingly eventful life, which ended in Los Angeles on November 12th, 2018, he came to inhabit many titles and many positions within the entertainment industry: Inkwell-filler. He also never stopped engaging with fans, whether it was through videos recorded for the internet or convention appearances.

Marvel characters are known the world over, and its films have become huge successes.

Lee has suffered several illnesses over the past year, including pneumonia. Lee seemed like every reader's favorite uncle, always willing to share a wisecrack and some insider gossip going on behind the scenes at the company. In 2002, he was forced to sue the company for royalties he was owed for the first three Spider-Man movies (the films with Tobey Maguire).

From Spidey to Black Panther to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, Lee collaborated with other authors and illustrators to put his lively imagination on the page. He has acted as executive producer on Marvel Studios' movies, and he has credits on the company's features under Fox and Sony.

My father loved all of his fans.

He was well known for his many cameos in Marvel films.

"Awww man, heartbreaking. R.I.P.to a true pioneer and legend", tweeted Australian filmmaker James Wan, who directed numerous "Saw" and "Insidious" movies as well as helming "Aquaman", an upcoming superhero film based on the character by Marvel rival DC Comics.

Many paid special tribute to Lee's tradition of on-screen cameos, including Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. He wrote under the name Stan Lee, which would later become his legal name, writing in his autobiography that he meant to save his given name for more literary work. We also join the mourning millions of people whose lives were forever changed by his words, his characters, his seemingly boundless enthusiasm for life, and his endless positivity that the world could, and will, be a better place for all.

On behalf of 411, I'd like to extend my condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Mr. Lee.
