Ocasio-Cortez Criticized After Failing to Provide Workers’ Compensation Coverage

Ocasio-Cortez Criticized After Failing to Provide Workers’ Compensation Coverage

'Honestly, if the Democrats had 3 more of her, Americans would run away so fast that we'd have a power monopoly until she's Lieberman's age'.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) tapped into the nerd fanbase motherlode Friday when she quoted Watchmen author Alan Moore. "There's a difference between being an activist and a lawmaker in Congress".

Ocasio-Cortez sought a spot on the committee-which is usually off limits to freshman reps - with the backing of progressive groups that pushed for a slate of fresh-faced candidates to earn posh assignments.

"People are afraid of her", a senior Democratic aide told Politico, as some Democrats have withheld criticism of Ocasio-Cortez in fear that she'll go after them on Twitter.

They also quoted Democrats, such as Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) saying things like this: "I'm sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there's nearly an outstanding rule: Don't attack your own people". "Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy".

They both unseated a fellow Democrat and share Puerto Rican roots. "The honeymoon between the voters that you represent and yourself could be a short one".

Velázquez told Politico that the two shared a "long, long conversation" about the dynamics of Congress and Washington, and how there shouldn't be a "litmus test" for each district, and advised Ocasio-Cortez to think twice before backing primary challenges against her colleagues.

According to the Daily News, her spokesman had "nothing to add". He frequently voted along Republican ideology lines, and post-retirement from the Senate, served as head counsel for the white collar criminal defense and investigations practice at a law firm that did extensive work for Donald Trump and then later failed to mention that as a conflict of interest when necessary.

In a comparison that Ocasio-Cortez would surely hate, politicos have pointed out that the NY rep. has "Trumpian" tendencies.
