President Trump accuses Democrats of presidential harassment

Republicans see the probe by the judiciary committee is part of a larger effort by House Democrats to use investigative powers to hamstring Trump and his 2020 campaign, a tactic the president calls "presidential harassment".

President Donald Trump says he'll cooperate with the House Judiciary Committee's sweeping investigation into his White House, campaign and businesses.

He was asked on the ABC News podcast The Investigation about the perception of a chaotic White House, and whether President Trump was responsible for creating the drama.

Some of the president's defenders reacted today by accusing Democrats of being sore losers who never got over losing the 2016 election and are now harassing the president.

Nadler told CNN anchor Erin Burnett Monday night that Ivanka Trump is "not on the initial list, that is what we can say".

The White House said Monday that it has received the request and would respond at the "appropriate time".

Nadler revealed Monday that he is opening an investigation "into the alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump, his associates, and members of his Administration".

The investigation appears to be focused on Trump's business dealings, possible collusion with Russian Federation, and obstruction of justice allegations.

"We don't have the facts yet", Nadler said. We're going to check his deals.'.

Cobb, who also expressed support for the special counsel in an interview previous year, said the investigation has been taking longer than he once thought due to "a lot of surprises", including the activities of former Trump associates Paul Manafort, George Papadopoulos, Carter Page and Roger Stone. But Nadler said talk of trying to remove Trump from office is premature.

Indeed, President Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen's public testimony last week in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee reinforced the importance of the special counsel's investigation into Russia's influence in the 2016 campaign.

Trump himself swatted away the probe as a "political hoax", but said he would cooperate with the probe.

It is also an indication of the Democrats' current strategy - to flood the administration with oversight requests, keeping Trump and his associates on trial publicly and also playing a long game when it comes to possible impeachment.

Newly empowered House Democrats are flexing their strength with blossoming investigations. According to Mr Comey, Mr Trump had encouraged the then-FBI director to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Among other matters, the company officials were asked to provide documents regarding "any loan, financing transaction, or capital investment by the Russian Federation, any Russian national, any Russian business, or any other Russian entity to the Trump Organization".

"We're also saying that all the people on the list have given information already to either the special counsel, or the Southern District [of New York], or somebody", Nadler continued, "All we're asking for at this point is information they've already turned over, so that it can be done quickly and without questions of privilege". But he said, "The claim that there is no evidence is factually wrong".

The new investigation also follows an announcement by the House intelligence panel that it is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election that brought Trump to power, and Trump's foreign business interests.

The involvement of prosecutors from the Washington, D.C., US attorney's office and the National Security Division means those three cases - all central to the issue of Russian interference - can continue after Mueller hands his report to the attorney general, a move expected any time that will mark the end of his work.
