Gleyber Torres Returning To New York For Tests

The Yankees now have 16 players on the injured list. He also left Sunday night's game with a core issue and was transported to a nearby hospital.

New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres was removed from Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles with what the team referred to as "core pain".

Torres served as the designated hitter in Monday's series-opener with the Orioles, a game the Yankees took 9-6.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder DJ Stewart suffered a concussion during a freakish mishap Tuesday while the team was playing against the New York Yankees.

Braves outfielder Austin Riley will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to an injured knee ligament, The Athletic's David O'Brien reports.

"Everything checked out OK", manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday.

Before a 9-4 win over the Orioles on Tuesday, Boone was asked if Voit was any closer to making a decision on whether he would need potentially season-ending surgery to fix a sports hernia. "So we look at him to be day-to-day".

"When I DHed him, we thought he was through it and good to go", Boone said.

Minor league infielder Thairo Estrada was in the NY clubhouse, likely in case Torres was placed on the IL.

"So, we'll just continue to see what it is the best we can". The DH wasn't about easing him back. "As of right now, we're planning on moving forward".

He's batting.282/.349/.508 with 23 home runs in 104 games in his second major-league season.

The 22-year-old Torres made the AL All-Star team in July for the second time in two years.
