First reports of a shooting emerged at around 11:00 local time (18:00 GMT).

There is a now a helecopter and several ambulances on the scene.

Presidential candidate and former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke also commented about the incident on Twitter, urging citizens to follow police instructions and stay safe.

The latest images show the USA military have also been deployed to the scene having arrived by helicopter.

Pete Buttigieg said in a tweet that his grandmother used to take him to the Cielo Vista mall, where the shooting took place. We've been asked by law enforcement to just send everybody home.
