Shooting in San Diego leaves 5 dead, including 3 children

Three other boys were brought to medical centers, where the 5-year-old and the 9-year-old died, police told.

A 3-year-old boy, a 29-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were found dead inside.

An 11-year-old who survived the attack was undergoing surgeryl, police said.

Around 6:49 local time Saturday morning, police said they received a 911 call from the residence, but no one was on the line. As police headed to the scene, a relative next door called the police and reported hearing arguing and what sounded like a nail gun.

When they looked through a window they saw a child covered in blood. Two of those children have died and the other was taken into emergency surgery in critical condition, according to police.

A 5-year-old, 9-year-old, and 11-year-old were rushed to a nearby hospital.

No arrests have been made and there are no outstanding suspects so far, police say.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that police were last called to keep the peace at the house November 1 when the estranged husband had arrived to ask his wife for tools at the house.

San Diego police believe the deaths of three young boys and their parents were the result of a domestic dispute involving a husband and wife who were apparently going through a divorce.

Dobbs said that investigators believed that 'the male came over this morning, there was some kind of argument or disagreement and he used a hand gun and shot his family before turning the gun upon himself'.

The estranged wife had obtained a restraining order against the suspected gunman the day before, Dobbs said, although he added that it was still unclear whether it had been served when the shooting occurred.

The man was said to have been asking the woman for the tools, but left when police arrived. We do know the victim had attained a restraining order yesterday.

Police investigate the shooting scene Saturday.

"It appears to be a tragic case of domestic violence murder-suicide", homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said at a news conference Saturday afternoon.

"The tragedy today in Paradise Hills is terribly sad", Mayor Kevin Faulconer said via Twitter. Police initially identified the eldest child as the lone survivor, but later said it was too early to tell.
