Kate Middleton Recycles Princess Diana's Tiara as Queen Elizabeth Drips in Emeralds

It's common for members of the royal family to flaunt their titles of chivalry at state dinners or official gatherings like today's annual fête.

Her Majesty welcomed ambassadors and high commissioners to the United Kingdom, and government officials, for the annual Diplomatic Reception.

According to the Kensington Palace Instagram account, the annual reception hosted by the queen is attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, who represents the United Kingdom at home and overseas. Her other royal in-laws such as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (Prince Charles's wife) or Sophie, Countess of Wessex (Prince Edward's wife) have also received the honor.

In addition to the legendary tiara and attractive long-sleeve navy velvet gown, designed by Alexander McQueen, Kate is also donning a blue sash for the evening-symbolizing her role as a member of the Royal Victorian Order.

Catherine wore Princess Diana's Lover's Knot tiara for the event. It is not known whether Kate borrowed the ring from the Queen's large jewellery collection, or whether it is a new acquisition - possibly a gift from husband Prince William.

The Duchess of Cambridge last seen wearing the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace at The Portrait Gala 2014: Collecting to Inspire at the National Portrait Gallery.

The duchess, who joined the Duke of Cambridge at the event, paired the tiara with shimmering drop earrings and a matching statement necklace.

Attached to her gown was the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order sash, presented to Kate by Queen Elizabeth in recognition of services to the Crown, in April.

While the tiara caught everyone's attention, Kate also left heads turning as she chose to adorn one of the Queen's silver necklaces.
