Cruise Ship with COVID-19 Passengers

Cruise Ship with COVID-19 Passengers

"The very big concern is those people came off the cruise ship with no knowledge of Covid actually being on their ship", NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

Four people on board a cruise ship that docked in Sydney have tested positive to coronavirus, including a crew member.

Some of the passengers who boarded the ship on March 5 in Fort Lauderdale say the company refused to give them a refund and told them it was safe to travel.

Australia has almost 700 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, with more than half of them concentrated in New South Wales where Sydney, the country's largest city, is located.

Ruby Princess departs Sydney Harbour on Thursday.

Tauranga (March 11), Picton (March 13), Akaroa (March 14), Port Chalmers (March 15) leaving from Fiordland on March 16.

Three people on a cruise ship that visited New Zealand before returning to Sydney have come down with coronavirus, prompting pleas for all 3800 people on board to go into self-isolation for a fortnight.

"These people never left the ship in Wellington".

"There may be the possibility - not by any means confirmed - there may be other passengers on board that ship who could have had the Covid virus". Fifty-six of those passengers are thought to be New Zealanders, according to the New Zealand Ministry of Health.

The network said the third passenger, a woman from Tasmania, was being treated in Sydney. Passengers disembarked on the 18th.

'My mom said there was a passenger on board with medical training that was able to help but no medical staff provided by the cruise line or government, ' Ecker said.

At least some of the passengers - many of them from the cruise ship Costa Luminosa - were being taken a hangar for screening.

This was to assist the Australian health services in the follow up of contacts.

Edmund Pinto, a passenger on the Norwegian Jewel and a former Associated Press editor, said Wednesday that "we have been told so many times we can disembark, only to be told the day before we couldn't". "If they think that it's OK to be wandering around, the clear message from me as New South Wales health minister is "no it's not".

"Put yourself in a self-isolation". They would be asked "to be vigilant and contact their GP or Healthline if they display any symptoms".

The ship is now far off the coast of Sydney with the 1,100 crew aboard, including the one member of staff who tested positive.

As of Friday, New Zealand has 39 cases of coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement he was one of the confirmed cases announced today, an Auckland man in his 60s.
