Pete Buttigieg Drops Out Of Presidential Race

Wouldn't it be great if Pennsylvania's primary election actually mattered? "2024!" at one point.

But that rarely happens. And fellow candidates pressured him to open his fundraisers to reporters and provide more information about the people raising money for his presidential campaign. "I am just so, so sad that it didn't work out this time".

For a while it looked like this year would be different for Pennsylvania Democrats.

"Reports of how Senator Klobuchar treats her staff give us pause".

Bloomberg is a billionaire, and rather than competing in the first four primary states, he made a decision to spend a huge sum of money on advertisements and campaign organizations in the 14 states voting Tuesday, as well as on other ones voting in the coming weeks. Sanders attacked Biden for taking contributions from political organizations called Super PACs and billionaires, at what he said was the expense of working-class, middle-class and low-income people.

Buttigieg's withdrawal could help Biden, a one-time national Democratic front-runner whose much-needed victory in SC on Saturday gave him momentum heading into the 14-state Super Tuesday nominating contests this week. If the trend holds on Super Tuesday, we could see the field down to two or three by this time next week. California has the most delegates on offer by some distance, followed by Texas.

But the first four states were always more about momentum more than math. Biden vaulted past Buttigieg into second place with at least 50 delegates - shrinking Sanders' lead from what had been 30 delegates before SC to eight. Buttigieg had finished in a virtual tie in Iowa's caucuses, then second in New Hampshire and third in Nevada.

Already, there is speculation that Biden will announce Buttigieg as his running mate, potentially before Tuesday's critical vote, although he may have also negotiated a deal for a potential cabinet position.

SC was seen as a key test of Sanders' support among African-Americans - crucial to a Democratic victory in November - but he only received the backing of around 15pc of black voters while Biden received 60pc according to exit polls.

Still, Biden has struggled with fundraising, enabling him to spend only a fraction of what the other frontrunners are spending on advertising in other states with upcoming primaries, analysts have said. Biden has little organization, paid advertising or time to help turn the SC landslide into an equally strong showing on Tuesday, when 14 states, one USA territory and Democrats overseas weigh in on the race. Sanders remained the undisputed front-runner. The Vermont senator retains the backing of an energetic and committed base of supporters.

However, Trump's assertion is not supported by polling evidence.

Klobuchar, 59, launched her campaign in her home state of Minnesota during a snowstorm in February of past year.

Joe Biden's hopes of beating Bernie Sanders to the Democratic presidential nomination have got a major boost after a string of moderate rivals dropped out just before Super Tuesday when 14 states vote.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is suspending her presidential campaign, just one day before her home state was set to vote on Super Tuesday. Since 1988, the victor of Super Tuesday has gone on to secure their party's nomination, and with Sanders leading in the polls in California and Texas it will be an uphill battle for Biden to win the day. If Hispanic voters stick by Sanders on Tuesday in the two states that matter most, he could build an insurmountable delegate lead.

Every Democratic candidate opposing Sanders has upheld the primacy of racial politics in one form or another. Tuesday will be the first time former NY mayor Mike Bloomberg will appear on the ballot.

That small-dollar support waned as the campaign went on. The bad news is, Bloomberg wasn't on the ballot.

The newfound confidence came at a crossroads in the Democratic Party's turbulent primary season.

He said state Democrats recently launched a county-level effort to keep Democrats engaged and headed for the polls on April 28.
