"We've not seen staffing shortages, and we've been working very carefully to try and support staff so they can continue to come into work", Henry said. Stay at home and be creative with how you connect and celebrate with family and friends. Failing that, they will be sent to a quarantine facility for the 14-day period.

Henry encouraged people to unwind this weekend but cautioned them to stay home.

Henry said that 134 people are in hospital, including 63 in ICU or critical care.

Henry said B.C. Ferries told her there was only a fraction of traffic the long weekend usually brings and that the company believed most people were doing their part and staying home.

In BC, 58 people have died as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries have imposed harsher restrictions than Canada has. People in their 20s and 30s are not immune to having severe illness with this.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, delivers her daily briefing on COVID-19 cases with health minister Adrian Dix standing by in Victoria. Of that total, 153 are residents and 93 are staff members.

The outbreak there has affected 26 people so far. Henry said two cases have been confirmed at the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver.

On the recovery side, Dr. Henry notes that 905 people have now fully recovered from the virus.

The province said three of those deaths are linked to long-term care homes, which have now accounted for 33 of the 55 COVID-19 deaths in B.C.

As for reports of busy B.C. ferry terminals this long weekend, Henry said the vessels were already running at 50 per cent capacity. Henry said the percentage of positive tests has been rising, which is an indicator the people they are targeting are more likely to test positive. "So I am heartened that I think most people are doing what we need to do".

"Let's continue to stand strong - united with kindness and care".
