Hospital Heroes Illuminate 'Christ The Redeemer' As Part Of Coronavirus Tribute

Back in March, the statue was illuminated with flags of various global countries impacted by the coronavirus pandemic along with the message #praytogether translated in multiple languages.

Messages of thanks in various language appeared on the statue, while pictures of medical professionals wearing scrubs and putting on face masks were also shown. "Obrigado", "merci", "grazie", "danke" launched the screening, thanking the millions of medical workers who have unselfishly fought against the pandemic worldwide.

Brazil paid tribute to the frontline workers amid the coronavirus pandemic by lighting up the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro on Easter Sunday (April 12).

Coronavirus: the race for the answer ›.

"Stay at home", read one of the illuminated messages, according to the paper.

Brazil's Health Ministry previously planned to tap in the retired doctors to help the battle against coronavirus pandemic; however, consideration for their ages -old people being vulnerable/susceptible to the disease- played a big part in shutting down the idea, according to news of The Brazilian Report.

In addition, the statue was lit in the colours of the flags of those countries that have suffered the most from COVID-19: the US, Spain, Italy, China, and Brazil itself.

The archbishop of Rio, Dom Orani Tempesta, held the Easter mass at the foot of the statue during the light show without the presence of public.

This is not the first time that the Christ the Redeemer statue has lit up to support coronavirus relief and prevention efforts.

Brazil has registered more than 22,000 cases of Covid-19, with at least 1,200 coronavirus-related deaths.
