India Retaliates to Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation: Indian Army

An Indian paramilitary soldier stands guard wearing protective gear as a precautionary measure against the new coronavirus at a residential area in Srinagar, Indian controlled Kashmir, April 11, 2020.

A defence spokesperson said there was strong retaliation by the Indian Army to the ceasefire violation in Keran sector in Kupwara district this afternoon.

Both countries claim the region in full, but rule only parts, and often accuse each other of breaching a 2003 ceasefire pact by shelling and firing across the LoC.

Three civilians were killed during an alleged ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Sunday, PTI reported.

After the targeting on Friday, Pakistan violated ceasefire on several locations along the LoC and International Border.

Army today said that they destroyed gun positions and ammunition dumps of Pakistani troops and militant launch pads in Neelam valley that were active in sending infiltrators into Kashmir.

The military said on Sunday that two people were seriously hurt overnight and had to be evacuated. "There was heavy shelling and soon after it stopped, police teams reached the civilian area for rescue work".

Indian Army is retaliating befittingly, the spokesman said.

The locals living in areas like, Zurhama, Jumgand, Farkin and Panzgam, Juktiyal and adjoining areas said they thought war has started and many of them shifted to safer places. Five terrorists were also killed in the encounter.

The use of artillery and heavy mortars caused injuries to a 35-year-old resident of Seiran Village and a 57-year-old resident of Nangal Village. Almost 70,000 people have been killed in the uprising and the ensuing Indian military crackdown.
