Lee Fierro, star of the film `Jaws`, dies of coronavirus complications

Actress Lee Fierro, who is best known for playing Mrs Kintner in Steven Spielberg's film "Jaws" is dead.

R.I.P.: Lee Fierro, who had a memorable role in Jaws, has died from complications of coronavirus.

Kevin Ryan, artistic director and board president for Island Theatre Workshop recalled Fierro's dedication to the Martha's Vineyard Times. Fierro was a staunch advocate for the program, which she supported for decades. "She was fiercely dedicated to the mission of teaching", Ryan added.

In "Jaws", Fierro's character was the mother of Alex Kintner (Jeffrey Voorhees), the second victim of the great white shark.

Perhaps even more iconic. her confrontation with Roy Scheider, who played Chief Brody, whom she slapped across the face at Alex's wake. You knew there was a shark out there.

Fierro was active in local theater, appearing in numerous productions at the Martha Vineyard's Playhouse. "You knew all those things and still my boy is dead now, and there's nothing you can do about it. I wanted you to know that". 'She would say, "If you told me that's what I'd be known for, I wouldn't believe it".

Fierro shared the story of how she was cast in Jaws with the Martha's Vineyard Magazine in 2005, according to The Vineyard Gazette. "She, no matter what it was, would stay at it and get the job done". It also starred Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Lorraine Gary, among others.

According to The Martha's Vineyard Times, a small service is being planned by Fierro's family in OH, what with social distancing strictures in place during these times of coronavirus pandemic.

The Hollywood Reporter noted Fierro is survived by her five children.

The coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, is spread by droplets from coughs or sneezes.
