Apple to reopen some USA stores next week

Apple CEO Tim Cook told Bloomberg in an interview on April 30 that the company plans to reopen retail stores in Austria and Australia in coming weeks, adding that he expects "just a few, not a large number" of USA stores to reopen in the first half of May.

Apple's retail stores in the United States have been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Our team is constantly monitoring local heath data and government guidance, and as soon as we can safely open our stores, we will".

Apple in mid-April reopened Apple Garosugil, its lone store in South Korea, located in the Seoul's Gangnam District. Reopened locations are prioritizing repairs above sales, Apple explained. Apple had been aiming for a May reopening for some time, but now it's official. That covers six stores in total.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman tweets that the Apple Store in Boise, Idaho will be the first one to re-open this Monday, with the remaining five stores opening after that.

Apple isn't saying, though we've emailed the company to ask for clarification on its plans.

Will re-opened Apple stores operate differently?

It touts Apple's new no-contact delivery service, financing options, order tracking, and more, with links to shop all Apple's product categories, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Apple stores tend to draw crowds, and serve as destinations in many shopping malls. The stores themselves will also continue to include enhanced health and safety measures such as checking body temperature prior to entry, limiting the number of people in the store, and practicing social distancing and thorough cleaning procedures.

Apple are now recommending that people order online for delivery or in-store pickup to limit personal contact.

"Our new social distance protocol allows for a limited number of visitors in the store at one time so there may be a delay for walk-in customers", Apple said. It will implement temperature checks at reopened stores, limit the number of people in a store at once, and require face coverings, the spokesperson said.
