Prince George turns 7 on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Earlier this year, the duke and duchess spoke about home-schooling George and his brother and sister while schools closed to most pupils during lockdown.

As has become tradition, the image was snapped by George's photographer mum Kate, who is known for her impressive photography skills after years of taking sweet candid shots of her young children, as they've grown up before our eyes. In both photos, an ecstatic Prince George can be seen smiling into the camera.

As Britain takes its first steps out of COVID-19 lockdown, and with holiday options limited, George is expected to spend his birthday at home.

Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Savannah Phillips, Prince George of Cambridge and Isla Phillips watch the flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping The Colour on June 9, 2018 in London, England.

"I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making", she told Elizabeth Day's How To Fail podcast. After his birth, his parents - Prince William and Kate - stepped out to announce his full name, George Alexander Louis.

"George is more reserved, and Charlotte is more outgoing", a royal insider explained to People. In an additional portrait, George wears a camouflage t-shirt against a grassy background.

The Duke of Sussex retired from the Army in 2015. Since Prince Harry is very close to his nephews and niece despite his transatlantic move, Prince George's photo could be a wink to him.
