Ben Affleck to Star as Batman in The Flash

Ben Affleck to Star as Batman in The Flash

Batman fans from different generations can rejoice in the news that we will see two of the most famous men to don the cape and cowl return to the role in Andy Muschietti's The Flash. Perhaps even the Matt Reeves "The Batman" film progressing as well as it is has meant less pressure on him to carry the role and this could be the send off he would have wanted.

Affleck may have stepped away from his Justice League role as Batman, but the universe his character was set is still going.

Though there are now very few specific details regarding the plot of The Batman, Reeves did reveal some time ago that the movie will be a noir-driven story that highlights Bruce Wayne's detective skills, which have rarely been featured in past movies. The interaction and connection between Barry [Allen] along with Affleck's [Bruce] Wayne may deliver a psychological level that we have not seen previously. I feel like so much of the problem with DC movies is that they perfectly cast these characters and then didn't know what to do with them, and so, hopefully, this will start to change and we can explore more with Ben Affleck. They either lost their mothers to kill, and that is among those psychological vessels of the film.

Are you excited to see both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton return to the role of Batman? "There's a familiarity there".

Vanity Fair has heard that Affleck, who played Batman in Batman v Superman and Justice League, will return as Bruce Wayne for The Flash starring Ezra Miller and helmed by It director Andy Muschietti.

"... He also knows how to send from the interior out, which vulnerability".

Sorry, Ben. Like we told you: being Batman is forever, whether you want it or not. So you can expect to see Affleck's Batman and Keaton's Batman both interact with Ezra Miller's Barry Allen, AKA The Flash. Unfortunately, the actor ultimately chose to step away from the role for both personal reasons, and his struggle with making such big blockbuster movies. "He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance", Muschietti said in an interview. "So, I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at".

He told the magazine that Affleck got the script last week and agreed this week to join the project.

Val Kilmer is also speculated to be returning as Batman, maybe for The Flash, as the actor has confirmed involvement in this weekend's DC FanDome event; another possibility is that the "Schumacher Cut" of Batman Forever could be announced. Hence, per Muschietti, it was necessary to have Affleck's Batman as a starting point: "He's the baseline".
