Pelicans acquire former Birmingham prep star in National Basketball Association trade

The sign-and-trade of Bogdanovic likely signals another rebuild for the Kings, who have not made the playoffs since 2006.

The urgency from the Bucks' head office makes it clear that the team is trying to satisfy the 2-time MVP by keeping some major talent around him, making a trade this week for Jrue Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans, which could entice him to stay when the time is right.

Holiday and Bogdanovic address Milwaukee's need for shooting around Antetokounmpo, and Holiday is one of the best defenders in the league. After putting up rock-solid numbers for some bad Kings teams, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 28-year-old make a substantial leap playing alongside several legitimate National Basketball Association stars.

The Pelicans are getting Eric Bledsoe, George Hill and a package of future first-round draft picks from the Bucks, the person told The Associated Press. David Aldridge of The Athletic also reported that one of the first-rounders New Orleans will receive is the No. 24 overall pick in Wednesday's draft. Holiday averaged 19.1 points and 6.7 assists for New Orleans last season and shot 35.3 percent from 3-point range.

Besides adding Bogdan Bogdanovic, Milwaukee also recently swung a trade for Jrue Holiday.

Bogdanovic came to the National Basketball Association as a seasoned 25-year-old and has been a reliable perimeter scoring option for the Kings since.

A first-round choice from Kentucky in the 2010 NBA Draft, Bledsoe has played in 631 regular-season games with the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee. He averaged 15.1 points per game for the team in 2019-20. This past season, they were ousted by the Miami Heat in the second round.

He had three years left on a four-year, $70 million extension signed prior to the 2019-20 season. He averaged 3.6 ppg and 2.5 rpg in 9.8 mpg last season.
