Recount rules in crucial battleground states explained

There is no clear presidential victor in the swing state, which has 16 electoral votes, according to Edison Research.

With only a handful of states still in play, we bring you the ones still up for grabs.

In late September, FBI director Christopher Wray said they had not seen "any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election". [Screenshot: The New York Times]You might assume Trump is unbeatable. "We're winning the election, we've won the election, and we're going to defend that election", said Biden senior advisor Bob Bauer.

Earlier Wednesday, Trump said he'll take the presidential election to the Supreme Court, but it's unclear what he meant in a country in which vote tabulations routinely continue beyond Election Day, and states largely set the rules for when the count has to end.

In a middle-of-the-night speech from the White House, Trump threatened to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene to stop what he called the disenfranchisement of Republican voters, without offering evidence that any wrongdoing had occurred. He was then given a 2-in-3 chance (68%) of winning re-election but then plummeted to 41% after the Democrat fightback in MI and Wisconsin.

The former vice-president's campaign meanwhile welcomed the ongoing vote count and a Biden campaign attorney said they are ready for any legal fight. "He should not have done that". The tally, which news reports have placed just shy of 70 million votes, compares to around 67 million for President Donald Trump.

But Twitter flagged the tweet, saying its content was disputed given the incomplete results. "While we wait for the election result, the European Union remains ready to continue building a strong transatlantic partnership, based on our shared values and history". For awhile, MSNBC kept a "Kornacki cam" on him as he sifted through returns offstage.

Roy said believes Trump's promise to fix the North American Free Trade Agreement helped secure votes to win the county in 2016 and believed it is the same promise that brought voters out again in 2020.

Earlier, Biden said: "As I've said all along, it's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare who's won this election".

"He will be the president of the United States", O'Malley Dillon said.

Mishkin went on the air after Fox's Bret Baier noted that the network was taking "incoming" on the decision. But Mr Biden continued to perform well as votes were counted in the southern, Republican-friendly states of Georgia and North Carolina, and even in early results from Texas.

"We believe that we have already won Wisconsin", she said, adding that "We expect to win MI". The AP eventually called Arizona for Biden at 2:52 a.m.

There was also something suspicious about the vote reporting in Antrim County, Michigan, where Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 30 points in 2016. It seems the error was discovered only because Davis and other Twitter users noted how insane and suspicious the vote totals looked, and demanded an investigation that uncovered what was either a typo or an incredibly clumsy attempt to boost Biden's vote count.
