Saudi Arabia extends week-long border closure

It was only on Dec 21 that the General Authority of Civil Aviation -Saudi Arabia had announced suspension of all global flight services as part of necessary precautions to avert any possible spread of COVID 19; however, in view of existent situation, it has allowed foreign airlines to operate flights in the kingdom airports and carry on Saudi passengers outside the Kingdom. The decision will not cover countries dealing with the new Covid-19 strain and crew members of flights landing in the kingdom are not allowed to leave their planes, according to the report.

The step has no impact on the flow of goods and supply chains, the news agency said, adding that non-residents are allowed to depart via flights in line with precautions issued by the health ministry.

Saudi Arabia on Monday extended a ban on flight operation from the kingdom for another week to assess the situation with regard to the new coronavirus strain, ARY NEWS reported.

While adhering to the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has been informed the airports in the country to still transport non-Saudi passengers outside Saudi.

Several countries temporarily suspended flights to the United Kingdom last week, with the Philippines extending the ban on United Kingdom flights until mid-January.
