UFC turfs Ottman Azaitar over COVID-19 protocols breach

White later told Farah Hannoun at MMA Junkie that it was because of the fighter breaking safety protocol.

Azaitar had been scheduled to face Matt Frevola on the UFC 257 main card on pay-per-view.

UFC President Dana White later confirmed this freakish story's veracity.

We're reaching out to Ottman's camp for comment.

The Moroccan fighter left the UFC after only two fights.

Speaking after the weigh-in, the UFC president explained: "Yeah, it's pretty incredible actually".

UFC 257 will take place later tonight in Abu Dhabi, with Conor McGregor's rematch against Dustin Poirier headlining the card.

He and his team cut off their wristbands and gave them to someone outside the bubble, I don't even know how they did it. He indicated that Azaitar and his team brazenly violated COVID-19 safety protocols, leading to Azaitar being released from his contract. He then was able to get pass security who was trying to track him down.

White continued: "One guy got inside the bubble, went in through a room and shimmied down four balconies, got in through his balcony and dropped off a bag of we don't know what".

Ottman Azaitar declared victor over Khama Worthy. In the co-feature, former Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler (22-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his promotional debut against Dan Hooker (20-10 MMA, 10-6 UFC).

One positive note however is that his opponent Matt Frevola will now fight Arman Tsarukyan instead, whose opponent had to drop out due to illness on weigh-ins day.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 12: Ottman Azaitar of Germany celebrates after his victory over Khama Worthy in a lightweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at UFC APEX on September 12, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, an inexplicable decision to sneak outsiders into the bubble at Fight Island has cost him his job in the UFC, and potentially his career.
