Northam to update mask guidance following eased CDC guidelines

Following the announcement on Thursday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris appeared before reporters at the Rose Garden of the White House without wearing masks. Hours earlier in the Oval Office, where Biden was meeting with vaccinated Republican lawmakers, he led the group in removing their masks when the guidance was announced.

The CDC no longer recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks outdoors in crowds, and in many indoor settings. Additionally, the CDC says people should still get tested for COVID 3-5 days after worldwide travel, even if they are fully vaccinated.

The CDC last updated its guidance for vaccinated people on April 27. "Most people under the age of 65 aren't vaccinated yet".

The new guidelines state that vaccinated crew and passengers may gather or conduct activities outdoors, including engaging in extended meal service or beverage consumption, without wearing a mask except in crowded settings. "Therefore if you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask".

It's going to be hard to tell who is vaccinated and free to go into stores, schools and other sites without a mask - and so some organizations may keep mask mandates, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday.

Fully vaccinated is those who are two full weeks past their final dose - two for Pfizer and Moderna, one for Johnson & Johnson. "Are they now supposed to become the vaccination police?" "I think it's a great milestone, a great day", he said in a nationally televised address at the White House.

These results show that vaccinated people, even without a mask, are at extremely low risk for contracting or suffering from serious cases of the virus.

"This is an exciting and powerful moment", she said.

Public health says one more person has died because of the coronavirus.

States, however, have varied rules when it comes to masks. "This does speak to the power of vaccines, but how can we be sure those around us are vaccinated?"

He says with that goal in mind, Canada will have a "good level" of protection for everyone.

"We can see that comeback on the horizon and we will continue working collaboratively with our partners in government and throughout the business community to make it happen".

Jon Hurst, president of the Retailers Association of MA, said he thinks the CDC's guidance will make consumers feel more comfortable about going out to local businesses, but also hopes it will help prod Baker into moving up the state's timeline.

Brown said in a video statement Thursday that the new CDC guidance means Oregonians who are fully-vaccinated no longer need to wear masks or social distance in most public spaces.

Walensky cited 3 studies done in Israel and United States that show vaccines work.

There are some caveats.

Walensky said people who are immune compromised should talk to their doctor before giving up their mask.
