Saskatchewan RCMP officer arrested after man found dead in wooded area

RCMP said they were concerned for a 30-year-old woman's wellbeing.

Police say the dead man, Braden Herman from Clearwater River Dene Nation, knew the officer but was not related to him.

Herman has been charged with with First Murder.

Investigators with the Prince Albert Police Service were called on Tuesday night to a wooded area within the city after receiving a report that a man's body had been discovered.

The court case of a Saskatchewan Mountie accused of killing a 26-year-old man has been put over until later this month.

"Any time someone's life is taken it is certainly tragic and just really sad", Charlene Tebbutt, media co-ordinator with the Prince Albert police, said Wednesday.

Later Wednesday the RCMP released a statement to the Daily Herald regarding the charges.

"Public trust is essential for the RCMP to effectively serve and protect Canadians".

The RCMP said any information relating to the arrest and criminal investigation will be released by the Prince Albert Police Service.
